What kind of lenses fits the Sony A5000 camera?

Question

I know nothing about these types of cameras (I only had a sony point and shoot, and one that takes film before that, and besides getting into the filter thing (I'll ask/figure that one out later) What kind of lenses go with the Sony A5000? Is there a list of them somehwere? I only know of the standard 16-50mm.

I read that all the canon interchangeable lenses are interchangeable with each other, and all the Nikon lenses with the nikon bodies. Is it like that with all sony bodies, or does the a5000 have a specific set? Also, the a5000 isn't interchangeable with canon or nikon lenses, right?

Get the manual and read it BEFORE you buy, or you could be making an expensive mistake.

For example, some folks think that this sort of camera would be great for video. They get the camera and discover that when the video framing is good, the built-in mic can't do its job properly - and when the mic is in the right place to do its job properly, the video framing is bad... and while an external mic would be awesome, this camera has no connector for an external mic. Hence, expensive mistake... Either replace the camera with one that has a mic jack or use an external audio recording device and take extra steps during editing to synch audio and video...

Or when you are shooting video for something that is expected to be 35 minutes long and you press record... and at 29 minutes it turns off - and you did not know that was going to happen so you missed the last (best) 6 minutes (see page 16).

Or maybe you are expecting this camera to have a "bulb" setting for certain still image capture... Better check pages 23-28...

If you'd bothered to read your manual, it would tell you that your camera takes lenses in Sony E-mount.

Like virtually all EVIL models, it can't take DSLR lenses without an adapter (the Canon EOS-M series and the Nikon-1 series can't take their DSLR lenses either).

The key word is E-mount. Sony of course make them, as do many third parties - Tamron, Sigma, Rokinon/Bower/Samyang, Lensbaby, etc. etc.

Andrew, I don t have a manual. I m doing research on cameras before choosing one. After I buy one will I read the manual. But before buying one, I want to know what the options different cameras have...such as interchangeable lens options.

Aside from that, thanks for the info. Now I know what to look for. (ex. never heard of E-mount before now.)
