Why can I remember names but not faces?

I can remember the names of people I've met, but I can hardly remember their faces. I tried looking it up, but I just results about why people can remember faces but not names, however, I have the opposite problem.

Does anyone know why this might be?

Thanks :)

This is a problem that affects about 2% of the population to one extent or another. It was covered several weeks ago (as an extreme case) on an episode of 'Rizzoli and Isles'. The character there compensated by remembering other features than faces. (Height, hair color, rings, walk, etc.) You may want to watch that episode, it was just on TNT a few weeks ago and should be available on demand.

It has to do with how your brain processes information. More often than not people will remember faces, as it is in our base instincts as humans to recognize faces (which is why people often claim to see faces in everyday objects such as clouds). I am not entirely sure why you remember names instead of faces but I do know that sometimes taking vitamins that dilate the capillaries in your brain (ginkgo biloba), can help with memory. Dilating the capillaries in your brain increases the amount of blood, and therefore oxygen, that gets to every part of your brain. That excess oxygen that is getting to your brain stimulates brain function, and can sometimes be helpful in relieving headaches.

    Hope this was helpful.
