How can I become an atheist?

A lot of my friends say they're atheists and I want to be just like them. I asked my mom and she said only Jesus can decide who becomes an atheist. I've been praying to Jesus every night before bed to make me an atheist. Will he hear my prayer?

    How old are you kiddo?

I'm not asking this for any other reason than to comprehend the level of intelligence you have at your disposal.

But to answer your question, an Atheist, is a person, a normal human being, who questions things like religion, before accepting it as truth.

The reason why I am an atheist, is simple.

I was raised as a Christian, and a devout one as well, but something in my life triggered the "?" in my head. Why am I a Christian? Because my parents are Christian? Yeah, I guess that's why...but why are they? and I came to this conclusion...

If you're born in a Christian country, you will be a Christian, because since you are born, you are given religion as fact, rather than as theory, and I can tell you one thing, there are lots of contradictions in this religion, and any other religion for that matter, that simply don't sit well with a person that thinks...

Yeah, I trusted my mother, and I believed that what she said was the truth, because I was her child, because I trust my parents, and I still do trust them, and believe them, but they didn't do anything wrong intentionally, to them, this was the right thing to do, they're just victims, like I was..

I suggest you continue to believe whatever religious superstitions please you. Then, sign-up for every science class that's available and actually read your science textbooks and do your homework. If you manage to get all the way through high school biology, chemistry, and physics, you should develop an appreciation for how nature works perfectly well, all by itself, without the need for Divine supervision. Eventually, you will be forced to realize just how ignorant and mistaken our ancient ancestors actually were. You should then develop an appreciation for the dual (subjective / objective) nature of reality and begin to realize how the ancient Catholics erroneously pretended their mental experiences were real, while they simultaneously denied the independent existence of the objective physical realm.

If you manage to make it this far, you will probably be a scientific atheist, who knows that atomic elements and the molecules made from them are the basis of objective physical reality. Then you will have to decide if you wish to continue to pretend your own thoughts are part of reality. You could very well remain a believer in subjective religious experiences and simultaneously know that there is no place in the physical universe for a non-physical God to exist, except within your own subjective mind. Educated people know that God is a mental phenomenon and don't go through life embarrassing themselves by insisting He is objectively real.

Source(s): Christians are deeply confused about the nature of reality because the early Roman Catholics included Aristotle's unsubstantiated philosophy within Christianity's emerging theology. Then they spent thirteen centuries burning heretics at the stake for contradicting Aristotle by asserting physical reality can exist independently of human perception. Sadly, it took until 1641 before Rene Descartes was the first to correctly explain the distinction between objective physical reality and subjective mental experience.

Don't worry, there are no dead people who believe in God so you'll be an atheist someday.
