Why did I cry when I meditated?

When I finished meditating, I realized I was crying. This was my first time meditating and I only meditated for about 10 minutes. I didn't notice I was crying until after I opened my eyes. The meditation was about compassion, since I have been told I lack empathy. The person speaking through my earphones, was saying things like "think of others who have felt the same sadness as you" and "think of the hardships you went through". Idk why I didn't notice while I was meditating or why I even was crying in the first place.

    1. Lisltenng to a tape is not meditating 2. It is a form of hypnosis 3. You were crying because your emotions were being manipulated by the message in the tape. If you want to learn compassion meditation, look up the Buddhist practice of metta and also look into proper, authentic basic ways to really meditate instead of appealing to people's vanity by listening to their tapes for this and that.

Because it released something deep inside of you...

I guess it worked! Good job! Perhaps you were, for once, actually feeling real empathy! Which is amazing progress... Keep on sticking with it, because it sounds to me like it is obviously doing you a lot of good! :)

Source(s): Someone who always cries, hard, whenever she's experiencing profound release of some kind... And who's always, ultimately, all the better off because of it! Tears can have such a healing effect, in so many ways... Or perhaps it is the release itself, and the tears are just simply a side-effect... Whatever it is, you've got nothing to worry about! <3 :)

It isn't really meditation if you are listening to something.

Focus on love. To get started, visualize something cute and lovable, like a puppy, kitten, baby, hamster, etc, and then think to yourself how much you like it and want to care for it regardless of its flaws, and then use this positive feeling, let it grow and direct it to yourself, think of how much you like yourself and want to care for yourself regardless of your flaws, and then visualize a loved one and let the positive feeling grow more and think about how much you like them and want to care for them, and then direct it to a stranger or someone you have neutral feelings for, let the positive feeling grow more and think about how much you like them and want to care for them, then let the positive feeling grow and direct it to an enemy and think about how much you like them and want to care for them. Now maintain this positive feeling and let it keep growing, and like a white nuclear flame coming from your heart let it expand to fill first your home, then street, then town, then country, then the planet and then the universe, immerse everything with your complete love, warm and happy, and lastly and most importantly, direct it to God and to Jesus and think "the door of my heart is completely open to you my Lord." This is how I got saved.
