Firearm modification, SBR question about a Rossi Ranch Hand pistol. Would a lace on or slip on, buttstock extension make a pistol an SBR?
This is just for opinion sake, I will do some actual research on legality. I know a slip on or lace up buttpad is NOT counted for a legal OAL of 26 inches for rifles and shotguns under US code. I ended up with this Ranch Hand just for fun, but it is only around 1.5 to 2 inches shy of being able to shoulder fire.
If push comes to shove, I know I can legally modify a shooting vest with a couple inches of padding an be 100% positive not to run afoul of SBR regulations, but I would like to get some opinions on the former, as that would be much more convenient.
TIA.

I have built SBR in the past. Considering my favorite SOT/FFL dealer is now serving jail time........ I would highly recommend you don't do anything that even appears to cross the line, no matter how grey that line seems. Doing 7+ years in prison, like he is, when you have a young wife and baby daughter is not worth it for a few minor infractions.
I do know of people who got into hot water for adding temporary things to their AR pistols so it could be shoulder fired from the spring extension.
Although it sounds like a great idea to modify your shooting jacket........ I am pretty sure some federal prosecutor with nothing better to do would have no troubles at all putting paper on you for 'attempting to circumvent the law'. Even if you walk away a free man....... the court costs will near bankrupt you.
I am inclined to say nope, don't do this. I am sure there are folks who have done this. And they have done it a long time. But like the can cannon attachment to the AR that has been sold for a few years - BATFE has just made attachment a SBR and possession by itself an AOW. You don't want to be the guy who gets nailed as an example........ which seems to be the way they do business.
