Unthinking prejudice is still unthinking prejudice.

There are no anti-immigrant attitudes, today. We are finally targeting criminals who enter the country, or remain in the country illegally.

Illegal immigrants are as much criminals as bank robbers stealing from citizens of the United States.

Legal immigrants have been and always will be welcome here in the land of opportunity.

"They're taking our jobs!" "They're bringing foreign values and languages!" "They're not the right religion!" All those are things some people were saying then and what a lot of presidential candidates (among others) are saying now.

I rationalize the similarity as being based upon economic fear, rather than xenophobia or hatred/fear of any particular ethnic group.
