are the advertisements on Youtube random or based off of your internet shopping history?
If you watch a youtube video, often times there is a box ad on the right hand side of the video. Is the ads personalized to each person or is it just random.

I believe they are based on your internet shopping history. I say that because I know a little bit about organic internet marketing and I notice they seem to change to match what I have been looking at.

Youtube, as well as most sites, base your ads on not only your shopping history, but the things you do in general. You can view your ad settings in google chrome, and turn off the option to base ads you see off of what you do. You can also remove interests that google has added to you list of interests or add new interests. This only works in chrome though.
And when somebody pays a lot to show their ad it will show up for you, whether it relates to you or not.
