Why does tea taste so bad from a thermos flask, even a new stainless steel one?

It's more likely to be the water. It can go 'flat' or stale after a while.

Tea is best freshly made with fresh water or filtered.

Filtered water can be boiled several times without tasting odd, try using filtered water and see if that makes any difference.

If it tastes metallic, put it in a properly cleaned flask. The tea should also be made with filtered water. Otherwise it will taste nasty.

The flask has NOT been washed out properly beforehand.

Fill the flask with really hot water, put the tea bags in a seperate container and make the tea as and when you want to drink it.

Because it's not fresh from the pot.
