The war on drugs has been an utter failure why do liberals think a war on guns will be any more successful?

This is why most liberals don't want to ban guns, believe it or not what Rush and Beck have been telling you isn't true. True liberals believe in allowing people the freedom to make their own personal choices, be that smoking a joint, owning a gun, or having a beer. We simply advocate that there be some restriction and regulation to help ensure that these things are done in a responsible manner and don't cause harm to others.

The US has never seriously tried to limit access to firearms. We have tried to limit drug access and use without much success. Other countries have tried both, and it can legitimately be argued that their limitations on firearms have worked better in those countries than their limits on drug use.

Interestingly, most guns in circulation in the USA are manufactured right here legally. Although, there are plenty of imported guns in circulation too. In 2012 there were over 8.5 million firearms manufactured legally in the US, the largest sub category classified as rifles. Out of all those guns, less than 300,000 were exported. Most illegal drugs are imported into the US primarily because it is illegal to manufacture illegal drugs in the US. That doesn't mean no illegal drug manufacturing occurs in the US, but it limits it enough that it remains very lucrative to import such drugs.

Obama expanded gun rights in his first term and has never once proposed "taking yer guns away." He, like most SANE people, would like stronger gun laws. And MANY GUN OWNERS AGREE. The responsible kind, who wouldn't mind having to do a little training and get a certification. They actually have pride in their skill and their approach to gun ownership.

The war on drugs is in talking points only at this point in time, been that way for over a decade now.

A War on Guns will create an Black Market for the most deadly weapons available and only the criminals will be buying them.

Heroin addicts are rapidly increasing in number, not to mention heroin deaths - and heroin is cheaper now thanks to the "War on Drugs".

We liberals have always said that the war on drugs was and is a joke.

But using the logic of you and your con buddies, since criminals will get guns anyway, why have any restrictions on anything at all? Let's all get automatic weapons, tanks, flame throwers, grenades, and have a jolly old "resistance to tyranny" party.

And since people are going to kill people anyway, why make murder illegal?

The republicans gave birth to the War On Drugs. Reagan and Nixon were the baby daddies. The goal was never about drugs but about allowing the government to infringe on citizen's right to privacy. It was a veiled plan with a goal to remove the search and seizure protections, that way they could spy on people, enter homes without a search warrant and seize property. The drug trade was very profitable for Reagan. He funded a war with the money he made from dealing drugs with Columbian drug lords.

There is no war on guns. The US is so saturated with guns that would be an impossible task.

You do realize that people can make their own bullets and many do. We are a skilled nation and can make our own weapons. I know people who reproduce medieval knives, swords and daggers. It is legal.

I am a moderate, but side with liberals on social issues, like ending the drug war. But I'll try to take a stab, or shot, should I say, lol. First off, lots of them only want assault rifles banned, like AR-15's and automatic guns with 30 bullet clips for example, 10 bullets should be enough, taking time to reload can give people a chance to stop the shooter before he kills more. No need for a weapon that can kill tons of people just to protect your home or hunt. A regular rifle, or revolver, or something similar should be good enough for protection. The mass murderers bring weapons that cause mass carnage many times, and that is usually the outcome, ie colorado theater shooting, orlando nightclub, sandy hook, columbine, virginia tech, etc, I believe all had weapons that are overkill for any legal use. Lots of these were perhaps bought legally, either by the shooters parents, or they themselves. If they went to a black market to try to buy, perhaps they would have tried to buy from an undercover officer or something, and would have been stopped beforehand, or might not have known people who would be selling these on the black market. Liberals also want checks for mental health problems, because a lot of the times the perpetrators of these heinous crimes are literally sick in the head, schizos, bipolar, or psycho perhaps, not exactly sure what meets the criteria, but seems unfair to some, as bipolar people could be the nicest people and never cause anybody harm, so why should they not be able to protect their homes, guess a nice guard dog would perhaps be better or at least as good, maybe more of a deterrent, since if a robber hears the barking, they'll probably not take the risk, and maybe will feel like they might have lost element of surprise or something. Well, going to grab some dinner, not sure this helped, but having some legal gun market but better controlled and not selling weapons suitable for war should keep most of the black market away, serial numbers on guns that can be traced from production to sale, to keep those buying them accountable can help too perhaps, so felons and disturbed people (like the FL airport shooter just recently, who turned schizo perhaps from PTSD?) should not be able to walk into a store, buy a guy, and turn around and start shooting people.

Now if you want to know about why i think drug war should be stopped, you can read on...The 4 main objectives of the drug war: Lessen supply and demand, get prices to go up, and potency down. What has happened since 1965...more supply and demand than ever now, lowest prices (even including inflation!), and higher potency now than ever. When the 4 objectives are not achieved, and you see actually the opposite has happened, you know something is not working.

Now add in all the money wasted, and all the criminals we empowered creating a perfect breeding ground for our vulnerable youth to become criminals, we see a huge jump in homicides and shootings. Not just here in US, but south of the border too. The homicide rate increased just like we saw in the 20's and 30s with the prohibition era, which dropped after repealing the 18th amendment as quickly as they went up, or essentially the rise in crime dropped as soon as prohibition ended, and the black market disappeared leaving nothing to fight for profit over. The corporations essentially undercut the black market and put them out of business, like would happen with legalized regulated drugs, if we did it today.

Black markets don't ID, so they'll sell it to little kids even, while corporations can get into big legal trouble and lose licenses and such if ever sold to somebody under 21, lets say if going to do it like alcohol. Our inner cities are a war zone now, fighting over profit, and the revenge killings go back and forth with no end in site, with little kids getting killed in the crossfire. Our police and such are put at risk, because a dealer or user might not want to go to jail, so sometimes shoot at the cops to try to avoid jail. I would say 95% of the time cops lives are in danger is due to the drug war. Not sure why cops seem to be all for the drug war, when it puts themselves at risk, but perhaps cause they are racist, or ignorant, yes, these people are bad, but us treating making them into criminals makes them act like criminals. Like I said, there wouldn't be dealers, just stores where you can safely go to get the drug you want, not laced with harder/different drugs that can kill you (ie. fentanyl in heroin). When nothing good comes of our drug war, and tons more deaths are caused by it and tons of other chaos, then one would think it is time to try something different to fight addiction, education, rehabilitation, creating opportunities and youth groups/sports, etc, in our poorest neighborhoods. Maybe even holding people accountable, so one guy is not running around knocking up 10 different mentally ill women with low self-esteem and sticking her alone with raising these children, etc. I think if you have a kid and you not going to take care of it, you get a warning, do it again and not taking care of it, then you get neutered, or tubes tied for women, then you don’t get a ton of kids who aren’t being raised right.

More no knock warrants, more killing babies and grandmothers at wrong addresses, more spying, more CPS cases. Sounds like a liberal paradise to me.
