In modern slang, what does the word "spade" mean? I heard someone use the term as slang. What does it mean?

Since the 1960s or earlier, "spade" in American slang has been a derogatory word for a black man of African ancestry.

Not so much used in Britain as that slang word. In fact there is a saying in British English (in existence for hundreds of years) that you should "call a spade a spade", meaning that you should not use a fancy term when a plain word is available. Some people might call a spade a "manually operated earth re-shaping tool"!

Spade is a derogatory word for a African American basically the N word but they don't really say it that much today they said it during the era of the Civil War.
