Help finding info on my uncle from second world war?

I don't know where to start

My uncle was stationed in Italy and I was told received a medal for being wounded either in Anzio or Casino.

Of course I know his full name and where he enlisted from! (Massachusetts) but I can't find anything about any medal

Can anyone help me??

If he is still alive he has to request his military records through the National Archives. If you have POA you can request them on his behalf.

If he is deceased then his next of kin can request his military record through the National Archives.

They won't just give them to any relative, you actually have to be his next of kin. Usually that would go to the spouse first then any children he may have.

He was deployed to Italy more likely than stationed. You have some options if you have basic info. Ancestry.com, rootsweb.com, etc...

Have you been on Ancestry.com? We found all my father's military records on there.
