I had a dream about my birth father we just meat in June but talk on phone every night.?

One thing that strikes me is that the dream could reflect an anxiety about being re-abandoned or re-traumatized. He left you once, then he finally came back into your life. In the back of your mind you might be thinking why couldn't he just pick up and leave again if he felt like it? Holiday time is the time family is supposed to be close, so his disappearing at that time would be upsetting. Your last words "we don't live near each other yet" sounds like there is some plan to live near each other in the future? And that would mean you hope that the relationship continues and grows closer. But there might be that little nagging feeling of mistrust that you still have.

I am not sure what to think about the image of him smoking outside, except that smoking is a self-involved activity, something you do just for your own pleasure, and he is doing it "outside," away from the family. So that reminds me that people have lives of their own, their own preoccupations or self-absorption, that we don't know about and that takes away from the attention we want them to give us. Your perception of this fact may account for some of the doubt.

If he speaks to you every night, though, that sounds like he is giving you lots of attention. And the very end of the dream that you report shows him being affectionate and picking you up like a child, so that should be a positive sign that he takes his father role seriously.
