Sore in mouth that won t heal... which doctor?

My dad has a canker sore that won t heal. He s wondering if it even IS a canker sore. What doctor should he go to for this? Primary care doc or someone else?

    You need to get your dad to see a dentist. A canker sore in the mouth deals with bacteria, and needs to have careful examination. A regular doctor won't usually be able to deal with this as regularly, since it is more regarding oral health.

    Start with either primary care or with an ENT. Your primary care physician can confirm if it is a canker sore or not, and if it is something else, they will know what specialist to send you to. An ENT (otolaryngologist) specializes in ear, nose, and throat stuff, so even if the soar was something crazy, they would be able to deal with it. They can be harder to get in to see than primary care through.
