I want to play the Metal Gear series, but I have no idea where to start.?

I have no knowledge about the series so decided to start Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, but i am lost in the story and want to enjoy it.

I don;t want to go back to the 1987 game though

    Try the first Metal gear Solid on the Playstation. It was released in 1998 and it has a fantastic storyline. Plus the music is good too. I would highly recommend trying that one first. Along with the others up before V.

    MGSV takes place pretty much right in the middle of the series

    In order

    MGS3

    MGS: Portable Ops

    MGS: Peace Walker

    MGSV: Ground Zeroes

    MGSV: The Phantom Pain

    And directly after that is the '87 game followed by the rest
