Will my pine tree grow back?

My son ripped off the top of my young pine tree (pinus eldarica, I believe) that I had wanted to plant. It was only about three feet tall (now two). Is it likely to grow back? We were going to put it into the ground this evening... should we wait to see if it recovers? Thanks.

Take the top branch and bend it straight up. Put a stick in the pot or ground if necessary and tie the branch to the stick so the branch points straight up. The branch will become the new top. The tree will have a slight curve where you bent the branch up, but as the tree grows, the curve will disappear.

Make a clean cut where the top came off. See if it will recover? How so? It will not recover unless it is planted. The plant is not dead and given time it will grow up. However, there will be a major fork in the tree. Ranger seems to have experience and I think I have heard of the upward branch method before. So try it.

it will recover, but instead of growing straight up it will now branch out more, if you prune it while it grows out, you can make it grow more upright, but it will have a more funky shape to it! I would plant it anyway! and take pictures to show your son when he's older.

On most pine trees, once the terminal bud is removed, it will never get any taller, only winder.
