When looking at MPG should I look at Urban, Combined or Extra Urban?

My current car has something like 35.8mpg. I dont know if that's Urban, combined or extra urban. Im looking to get a new car. If I was to get one with for example 60mpg Urban would that mean if I put £20 petrol in it would last longer than my current car. I want something where I can put £20 petrol in and it would last me a while. Now it lasts a few days in my current car.

If someone could explain MPG and cost of petrol etc that would be great. Im a relatively new driver and this would be my 2nd car

Fuel costs vary depending on the price of oil. Right now, oil prices are low. In Texas, I'm paying about $1.90 a gallon for gas, and $20 will fill my Mazda's tank up and net me about 350 miles.

(1 British pound is worth about a dollar and a half in American currency, and the standard we use for a gallon is a bit smaller than the UK standard, so those numbers will be different in England. 1 US gallon equals 3.8 liters, give or take a tenth. Plus, the UK taxes the crap outta gasoline.)

If UK gas pumps are anything like US ones, they are required to list the price per gallon (or liter, if using metric). This will tell you how much gas you are getting for your 20 pounds. Then you have to know your vehicle's fuel mileage.

The US EPA classifies fuel economy in terms of city, highway, and combined. (In UK parlance, urban and extra-urban).

My car gets about 35mpg combined, and gas is $1.90 a gallon. So $20 will get me 10.52 gallons of gas. (20/1.9=10.52). Multiply that number by the vehicle's fuel economy, (10.52x35) and $20 will get me a range of 368.42 miles. If gas goes up to $2.50 a gallon, I'm getting 8 gallons for the same $20, and my car will travel 280 on the same amount of money. When gas was $4 a gallon a few years ago, $20 would net me 5 gallons and 175 miles.
