Interested in becoming an Army Civil Affairs Officer?
There are a million and one questions on this and I understand the basics of how to branch to Civil Affairs. My question lies in my initial branching; Is there a particular branch which will make me more desirable for a CA unit and/or better prepared?
Ultimately CA is definitely the type of work I want to do (and if not the Army I would like to participate in the Peace Corps with a focus on Economic Rehabilitation)

You don't say if you are active or Reserve. If you are active duty, it has become more difficult. The 85th CA is being disbanded. That will go back to just 1 Brigade of active duty CA (95th CA Bde (Airborne) at FT Bragg. Right now, it isn't an accession branch. You must transfer from somewhere else. When I went through the CA Qualification Course, there was a mix of branches for both active and Reserve. The 95th tends to look for SF-lite types. Whatever branch you get, make sure you are Airborne qualified. Infantry with a Ranger tab will look better than most others.
For Reserves, it doesn't really matter. Any branch can transfer and get a $10k bonus for qualifying. Airborne is not required, but it doesn't hurt since some CA units are on jump status. Reserve CA is so short of officers, they will pretty much take anyone that meets ht/wt and can pass the APFT. The hardest part will be completing the CA Qualification Course. They are starting to do a Captains Career Course for CA and there will eventually be a BOLC. A technical degree or even a Master's is nice, but not required. All CA units can get language training at DLI. Reserve CA units are about 20-30% for Captains and below, 40-50% for Majors.
CA is NOT the Peace Corps. If that is your goal and you think you are getting into the military for that, please don't join.
