An aluminium icecream scoop has been through the dishwasher and now leaves a grey stain on the icecream - is it safe?

I would take a green scrub pad or steel wool, or an abrasive cleanser and scrub off the oxidation, get it back to bare shiny(ish) aluminum. The grey is aluminum coming off it, since the surface layer was damaged by the dishwasher detergent. You really don't want to eat that much aluminum.

I'm with Karen. (Hi, Karen.) Scrub at the scoop until no more oxidized finish washes off. Then it's safe to use again. It shouldn't go in the dishwasher again, obviously, but you knew that.

Yeah. Wash it by hand and dry off. It will stop doing that. I've done it accidentally.
