Computer RAM Help?

Update:

My friend at school has got 16GB installed RAM but when we check in the system settings, it shows that only 3.84GB is usable. Where has the remaining RAM gone?

    The Operating system architecture is x32, and systems with x32 architecture can use 3.84 Gb only, If you/your friend are/is a serious gamer, consider to upgrading to a 64 bit OS (e.g. Windows 7 x64) to use the whole 16 GB ram.

    Sounds like your friends computer has a 32-bit system.

    A 32-bit system will only read 4 GB and only some above 3 GB is usable.
