Wanted - advice on COMPACT video card?

I'm thinking of buying a decent video card. The only thing is, I want a compact one, if it will do the same as the long cards do. I don't want a card 12 or 14 inches long, 7 inches sounds good. I'm using a 7 inch Radeon 7770 right now. I'm thinking of getting a GeForce 970 that is 7 inches long. Is there much difference between a 970 that is 7 inches long, instead of the standard 12 to 14 inches?

Many thanks, ~Cindy! :)

Update:

My power supply is an 850 watt Thermaltake Black Widow - plenty of juice for anything. :)

The only difference i can think of is, the 7 inch version wont overclock as easy because, it lacks a six pin connector. So less power to give it for over clocking. if you can afford it, there is also the R9 Fury X, and the R9 Nano. They are both 6 inch cards, and are about roughly 10% faster, than the GTX 970, but the Fury X comes with a water cooler so it might be to bulky.
