  • How do I backup whole drive in Linux Mint Cinnamon Sylvia 18.3?

I just moved up from Linux Mint Cinnamon Rosa 17.3 to Linux Mint Cinnamon Sylvia 18.3, and cannot figure out how to copy a whole drive from drive D to Drive E, for instance. I need to copy the whole drive for backup. It's all data, no OS stuff involved. I backup small SSDs to my big hard drive, then backup that to another hard drive that is taken out of the machine and stored. I could do it in Rosa, how do I do it in Sylvia?

If you don't know the answer, but know where I can get help, let me know. Write to me at CindyBradyTooh@yahoo.com

  • Which Pepsi do I pick?

I want to buy a single bottle of Pepsi from the store, but there are so many different Pepsies. What color bottle and bottle cap is the regular Pepsi, or the Pepsi made with real sugar?

    Thanks, ~Cindy! :)

  • My Adobe Flash Player is out of date. It wants to know if I want...?

I am running Linux Mint 17.3 Rosa.

My Adobe Flash Player is out of date.

It wants to know if I want:

    APT for Debian/Ubuntu

    YUM for Linux

    .tar.gz for Linux

    .rpm for Linux.

I have no idea what they are talking about, and I SURE don't wanna mess my system up. I also have no idea what I am doing - I just want my system to run well. Which of the 4 above versions do I want?

    Many thanks, ~Cindy! :)

  • Span, Stripe, or leave them alone? :O?

I need a 2 TB SSD. The biggest you can get is usually 1 TB (Yes, I know one company makes 2 TB ones, but they're too expensive. I'm sticking with Crucial - I have 3 of them now (one 512 MB for OS and programs, two 1 TB for data). Anyway, I now have two 1 TB SSDs. What should I do - Span them, Stripe them, or use them separately? GIVE REASON! :)

    Thank you! ~Cindy! :)

  • How do I make CDs to play in the car?

I have a 2002 Toyota Camry. I want to copy CDs to play in the car. (I leave the expensive, store-bought disks at home, and play copies to avoid the theft of the expensive CDs, because I have already had CDs stolen out of my car.)

I am doing something wrong, because every time I burn a CD, it doesn't play in the car. How do I set the CD burner? What settings do I use? I had an old CD burner, and bought a new Asus burner. None of the disks will play in the car.

I need step by step instructions, especially how to set the burner - do I want an mp3, WAV, Windows Media Audio? What about WPL, M3U? I have NO IDEA what all that means, I just want a CD to play in my car! :( I've made a ton of coasters so far, and am fairly irritated by that. Does this HAVE to be so complex? Jesus!

I don't want to spend any money on this. I make CDs once every 10 years or so. I use Windows Media Player to burn the CDs. I also have VLC on my computer, if that can be of any use.

  • Can you help me pick a video card?

Can you help me pick a video card? I am comfortable spending $250, more or less. Unfortunately, the cards I have been looking at are $350. I was thinking of a GeForce 970. I also read on the web that Radeon has better cards cheaper, that can beat the GeForce 970. I WILL pay $350 if I have to, but I am not comfortable doing so. What do you think?

Oh, yeah - one other itsy bitsy thing - I want a COMPACT card - 7" long or so. GeForce 970 and 960 both come in compact form, as do many Radeon cards.

My power supply is an 850 watt Thermaltake Black Widow - plenty of juice for anything. :)

My current screen is a 27" 1920 X 1200 resolution. I expect my next screen to be bigger.

My current processor is an Intel i5-3570K, the best i5 in the Ivybridge line.

Heat is no problem - I don't use a case! :O My computer is justa buncha computer parts layin on the desk, with wires connectin them! :D It's super easy to clean, and to change parts around. :)

Not that it matters, but my current video card is a Sapphire Radeon 7770 - yes, 7" long! :)

    Thank you, ~Cindy! :)

  • Video cards - GeForce 960 verses 970; and 7 inch verses 13 inch lengths?

I'm thinking of buying a decent video card. The only thing is, I want a compact one, if it will do the same as the long cards do. I don't want a card 12 or 14 inches long - 7 inches sounds just right. I'm using a 7 inch Radeon 7770 right now. I'm thinking of getting a GeForce 960 or 970 that is 7 inches long. Is there much difference between a 960 or 970 that is 7 inches long, instead of the standard 12 to 14 inches?

I don't usually buy a whole computer system at a time. Usually I upgrade piece by piece, one thing at a time. The graphics card is supposed to last this computer, the next computer, and maybe even the one after that. I want to buy one that will do the job 4 or 5 years into the future. That way I can afford an Intel Skylake processor, motherboard, and DDR4 RAM in a year or two.

Is a GeForce 970 worth the price of $325 or so? Would I notice much difference if I bought a GeForce 960 instead, for $190? Both cards come in compact versions, which are only 7 inches long, which is what I want.

To recap, the questions are, is there much difference between the 7 inch card and the 13 inch card, and is the 970 worth the large price difference over a 960?

    Many thanks, ~Cindy! :)

  • Buying first video card?

Suppose I had a computer with no graphics card, and I was going to buy my first one. Suppose there was a proper name brand 750 watt power supply in it. I do not play any games. I use the computer for surfing the web, looking at fine text (which I want very sharp) and pictures, watching movies and videos (some at high definition). The screen is 1920 X 1080p. What graphics card would you suggest?

    Thank you, ~Cindy! :)
