What is the difference between Raid 0, striping, and spanning?

Question 1: What is the difference between Raid 0, striping, and spanning???

Question 2: I have 3 SSDs, one 1 TB, and two 512 MB. I am thinking of combining them to make a 2 TB SSD. How do I do it?

Also, please not to miss my other question about video cards, which is here - /question/index?qid=20151...

Thank you, ~Cindy! :)

Update:

When I said 512 MB, I meant 512 GB. I ALWAYS get those two confused! :O ~Cindy! :O

Raid 0 and Striping is the same.

You have to configure these 3 SSD's in a Raid 0 (striping) array but the total will not be 2TB but only 1.5TB as the half of the 1TB SSD is lost. This is because the "stripe size" of the data will be the same for each SSD.

In order to get the full capacity of 2TB you can configure a JBOD (just a bunch of disks) provided the Raid controller support this function.

Spanning doesn't conform with Raid. It's a technology that allows an array of different sizes of HDD's/SSD's. It doesn't speed up the access like in Raid 0 (read & write) but writes a complete data block contiguous on one HDD/SSD.

Spanning is hardly available on current PC's as it is only supported by a certain VIA Raid configuration.
