If Trump had suggested that the US close it's borders to ALL foreigners for a few months, would there be such a backlash?

Of course. There would always been backlash when someone does something simply because they're political party label is different.

You can never find a compromise between both parties. It's near impossible,even more so in this day.

Hitler, the KKK, W. Bush, and Donald Trump were all wildly popular among their own supporters and all were hate mongers. They blamed a particular faction (Jews, Blacks, Iraqis, or Muslims and Mexicans) for the woes of the world and the nation. Lynchings are very popular events as normal citizens are swept up in mob rule, and believe the rhetoric. During war, enemies are demonized ("Japs" of WW II, Doctor of Death who was in charge of bioterrorism in Iraq, etc).

Closing borders to all would assure equality--one minority would not be favored over he other.

Trump's proposal to ban an entire religion does not violate the Constitution's First Amendment. Does it affect Muslims living in the US? Perhaps, but only by limiting the number of Muslims entering the US.

If more US citizens are murdered by terrorists (as citizens of Israel were), the US would be forced (as Israel was) to step up measures to protect it's citizens (Israel protected Palestineans as well as Jews).

Presidents have the right and obligation to suspend the Constitution during a crisis in order to protect citizens.

Some say that Trump went overboard by suggesting that the US blocks Muslims, yet look at W. Bush's reaction to terrorism (911 attack). W. Bush declared war against the Taliban leadership (and citizens) of Afghanistan because the Taliban captured bin Laden and his aides 9 days after the 911 attack, but refused to turn him over to the US until the US proved that the al Qaeda was involved. The 600 dispersed leaders of Afghanistan (dispersed because the Afghan capital had been destroyed some years ago by Soviet forces, so they had no centralized government) were unable to reach a consensus about W. Bush's demands within the time limit that he dictated, so a long and bloody war ensued. W. Bush also pretended that Iraq was linked to terrorism, and using balloon trucks and aluminum tubes (wrong size to refine Uranium), W. Bush led the nation to war against a peaceful nation devoid of terrorists. If that isn't over-reaction, I don't know what is. Furthermore W. Bush made torture camps in Camps X-Ray and Delta in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and many other torture camps around the world (including a floating torture camp on the Indian Ocean), probably to elicit false testimony (under torture) to justify his otherwise unjustified wars.

Compared to W. Bush, Trump is quite mild.

Trump is right to end the revolving door at the border that accepts murderers, paroles them, then allows them to come back to the US under an alias. Trump is also right that the borders might allow Middle Eastern sabateurs to enter along with the millions of illegal aliens.

Apparently, anyone who is not politically correct with receive a backlash, especially from those running against him.

since 80%of the nation agrees with him i see no backlash. all i see are just a bunch of huffy puffy career politicians desperate for attention at the risk of the lives of the American people.
