pus coming out of healed nose ring?

Got it pierced almost a year ago (last January). Had no issues whatsoever. In August I had a tonsillectomy so I had to take my nose ring out. Put it back in after the surgery. Still fine. Now I have to take it out all the time for work. It's still a bit sore from taking it out and putting it back in all the time. Now I'm having some white pus from my nose ring??? I originally had an 18k gold nose ring but recently bought some stainless steel ones because the gold one is really hard to put in. I'm usually allergic to metals (like with earrings and my belly button piercing) but this seems to be working fine, aside from the pus. I don't think it's infected because the area isn't swollen or red. Just the pus. Thoughts??

This happened to me with an ear piercing. I was changing earrings too much and a couple years after I got it pierced, suddenly it was raw and oozing. I never had pus, though. If you're sure it's pus, that generally indicates an infection.

If it's possibly related to the stainless steel ones from the timing of it, maybe you should try another gold one (doesn't have to be 18k) that's easier to get in. My sister's ear piercings always act up when she puts anything but pure gold in them.

This is not puss, but lymph discharge, and a normal part of a piercing that is very irritated. You are also allergic to the jewelry. if you have sensitive skin on your ears and belly, you have it all over, so you need to get high quality jewelry. You also need to learn how to remove and replace the jewelry better to cause less irritation. your piercer should be able to help you with all of this. In the mean time, treat it like a healing piercing and do sea salt soaks 1 - 2 times a day and it should calm down.

It very well may be infected. See a doctor as soon as possible.
