Do you believe people who've passed can contact you through dreams?

My mom died from cancer almost three months ago. About two months after she died I had a dream like I have never had before. I was at my parents house along with my dad and brother. We were sitting on the couch watching tv when my mom walked into the room and we were shocked because in the dream we knew she was dead. We asked her "How are you here? How is this happening?" And she said "I don't know" In the dream she wasn't sick anymore. My mom and I hugged and didn't let each other go for the rest of the dream. I didn't want to let go because I didn't know when she'd disappear again. In the dream I can remember her saying she wasn't sure how this was happening and she wasn't sure how long she had to stay.

It's completely possible I had this dream to make myself feel better. Can it be possible my mom was reaching out to me?

My condolences on your loss. As a professional medium, I know for a fact that the dead can contact the living thru our dreams. However, contact in dreams is very rare; much more so than most believers think. Some people assume that ANY dream of a dead person signifies a "visitation" or has spiritual meaning, but that's simply not the case. The vast majority of such dreams can be explained psychologically and are simply part of the grieving process.

The kind of dream you had is actually the most common for type for the bereaved. When we dream of a deceased loved one as if they are still alive or in ordinary, day-to-day situations, that's a *wish fulfillment* dream. It's our subconscious showing us what we WISH were true-- that the departed is miraculously alive (and usually healthy) and our lives can go back to normal again.

But just as you described, with some people, their subconscious knows better & takes over, which results in a partially LUCID dream. The fact that you were consciously aware your mother was not alive within that dream means you were actually denying what the dream showed. In my experience, that kind of dual awareness is a sign of *extreme grief.* It means that you can't escape your sadness & feelings of loss even in your dreams.

Having said that, let me give an example of an actual contact dream. I sometimes do readings by email, but I routinely ask that people not read those emails on their phones (bcuz it's too easy to miss crucial info.) Despite my advice, a friend I read for a couple of years ago did exactly the opposite- reviewed my email on her cellphone. Although I felt very positive about the reading, she was disappointed & claimed very little of it was meaningful. Then a couple of weeks later, she called me with an interesting story.

She said her dad appeared in a dream, but seemed very upset with her. In the dream, her father stood over her in bed and angrily demanded, "Why aren't you paying attention?" but my friend had no idea what he meant. Her dad then tossed a cellphone onto the bed and looking at it, she noticed the phone displayed MY number. That's when she awoke suddenly and remembering my email, went straight to her phone. Being in a rush the first time, she'd inadvertently missed relevant facts about family members. Without his "reminder" for her to re-read that material, she never would have recognized and made the connection.

I don't think they can really contact you directly but maybe they are letting your memory think of them. If the dream made you feel better, then just be happy that you saw her again, even in a dream.

I wouldn't discount anything 100% though because a lot of strange things happen with no real explanation.

No. I think a lot of people dream about loved ones, but none of them are actually communicating with anything.

In ways, yes. Is it actually their spirit, no.
