What if a giant pillar was on the other side of the world?

I m pretty sure we won t see it.

But what s the scientific description of it, in terms of our scale of vision?

Something to do with the horizon? Then how far?

    You would be able to see it.

    Merely just travel to the other side of the earth.

    There are in fact people living on the other side of the earth.

    And they don't see such a pillar.

    Ergo, such a pillar does not exist.

    You can never see through the part of the earth that lies between you and the pillar, so it's not the distance that is preventing you from seeing it, it's the fact that the earth is in the way.

    a six foot man, stranding at sea level, can see a horizon that ios about thee miles away
