We euthanized our dog Christmas Day?

I feel like we made the right decision, yet then again, I have regret. Her was the situation

Our English springer spaniel was a pretty healthy dog, but she started to decline very rapidly around October.

Before her decline, she eight around 36 lbs, mid December, she was 28lbs

On December 16, we tried slowly switching her to wet food, and she liked it for a while, but on December 23rd, she stopped eating.

I tried giving her cheese, she took it in her mouth, and spat it out.

later that night, she feel, and it was loud (she was trying to get a drink from the toilet. That was her first drink of water in more than 12 hours

She would get up, sniff around in the air, go around to other parts of the room, sniff in the air, and sit down, center room, and just stare (like she was confused).

Christmas Day, she fell again, and was looking very confused. She hasn t drank any water since that little bit that she had from the toilet that one time she fell.

This is now close to 48 hours with good hydration.

My family all knew it was probably time. We were leaving town the night day and because she had a nervous personality already (and because even when she was healthy, she would not normally eat when we left town) we thought it was time.

We didn t want her to suffer. We would be gone for 5 days. We also didn t want our neighbor who was taking care of her to find her.

She had a strange burst of energy right before we put her down

Update:

My question is, was it time to euthanize here, given what she was going through?

She was 13 years old.

She was always supplied with fresh water and dog food, for those who think I was being neglectful, that is not the case. She simply refused to eat, and towards here last days, would not eat period!

Update 2:

She is a bird hunting dog and played with tennis balls all her life. She had moderate arthritis that only bothered her during certain times of stress.

Same thing happened to our dog. We al most put our dog down. She was acting out. The day the vet was to come, I discovered she has a cracked tooth. This was causing her to act out. She was in pain. We called her euthanization off, fixed her tooth...She has been fine since. She is anew dog

    And your question is?

You failed to get proper vet treatment and didn't supply fresh clean water so that she had to resort to drinking out of the toilet. What did you think would happen?

I feel sorry that the dog had to suffer the ultimate and lose her life due to your neglect.

Please don't ever get another pet.

How old was she? Did the vet say what was causing her to fall?
