Simplify the algebraic expression.?

√(9xy²z³)

Few people seem to get these. On similar problems incorrect answers tend to prevail.

    I think I see what you did there...

    Is it because the answer is actually 3 |yz| √(xz)?

    ±(3yz)√xz

    People tend to forget that a square root can be plus or minus. A square root is not a function, because a function is defined to be single valued.

    First, separate out all factors that are

    perfect squares: √(9y^2z^2)(xz)

    By properties of radicals, this = √9y^2z^2 * √xz,

    which = 3yz√xz

    √(3•3•x•y•y•z•z•z)

    For each pair of factors, one moves outside the radical so

    3yz√(xz)
