How would you describe a spiral galaxy?

    because of the time differences in light arriving from different parts of distant galaxies it is impossible to know what they actually look like, light from the nearest part might arrive here 150 years before light from the furthest part , totally distorting what we think we are seeing, so a spiral galaxy may not be spiral at all

    Proportionately thinner than a razor blade. The spiral arms are not actually firm structures, they are density waves that stars move in and out of.
