What chainsaw do you like?

Update:

What chainsaw do you guys use while out hunting. I usually camp for up to two weeks. I am trying to cut down time it takes to get wood for the camp fire and for my wood stove. I have a echo with a 14" bar but it only has 30cc and it takes a little while to get threw any trees, and it bogs down a lot. I am looking for opinions.

I've got the 450 Rancher from Husqvarna. 20" bar. Works great for my needs (light cutting, some logs, mostly <16" diameter).

Are you keeping the chain sharp on your Echo? They don't cut for sh!t w/ a dull chain, and if you touch the dirt just once while cutting it knocks the edge right off the teeth.

Any saw that you take good care of should last for a long time. I myself have a cheap Chinese job with a 22" bar and a...55? 52? cc motor. It is sold in the US under Remington and a couple of other brands. Cost $80 brand new, works fine.

I do not pretend that it is as well built or long lasting as a Stihl or a Husquvarna. It works every time I need it, though. When it dies, I'll fix it or just replace it, and will still be way ahead financially over purchasing a premium saw.

If you were cutting trees professionally, my advice would be different. Since it's an occasional use item, I don't see the need for a professional grade tool. Spend the money, or not, as you see fit.

Go ahead with the thumbs down now, fellas.

Stihl is probably the best, but I've had no problems with Poulan brand saws. I never encountered anything that I couldn't handle with a Poulan with 16" bar, and they make an 18".

I recommend that you always use fresh gas, and unless your saw has something in the manual advising against it, use high octane fuel. It will cost a little more (but really, how many gallons of gas do you put through a chainsaw in a year?), but higher octane gas has less ethanol, which can degrade things like the fuel lines on small engines.

Most people prepare everything in advance of hunting season. I never heard of anyone taking a chainsaw with them while they are actually hunting.

Hi I own a lawn care and landscaping business. All my saws are stihl commercial grade equipment and all are 3 years old. While commercial grade equipment is a little more expensive than residential grade equipment. You get what you pay for. Go local equipment supply store buy the cheapest commercial grade saw. It will put off 35.1 ccs.

    Hope this helps

I have two. I have an older Sthil 021 that has served me well for years with nothing but basic maintenance. I also have a newer Husqvarna that I use for bigger jobs. After two years of fairly regular use, it has been flawless. I will be hauling them up north to cut wood for the hunting cabin this weekend.

Stihl is #1 in my opinion with Husqvarna a very close second.
