Can the exhaust gases from factories be reused?

Update:

I have learnt at school that conventional sources of energy such as coal, petrol, diesel, etc are organic hydrocarbons containing carbon. I also know that carbon compounds have a large amount of energy in them and during combustion some of the non-combusting carbon goes in to the atmosphere. Is it possible to capture that carbon and reuse it?

Most exhaust gases have depleted their energy source.
