How ill does he have to get or for how long before its time to take him to a vet?
The problem for the vet is, the longer you leave it the worse it gets, until some problems become ridiculously expensive or just impossible to treat.
Then you blame the vet.
For example, if your dog has eaten something toxic you need to see the vet within the hour so they can remove it safely from his stomach. 3 days or a week later when his liver and kidneys have failed, he is beyond help.
The same goes for foreign bodies. They can usually be removed quickly and cheaply from his stomach with an emetic injection or an endoscope.
We dont say 'see the vet' for a joke, or to annoy people. Its because not even a vet can diagnose the problem online, and its illegal for us to do so or offer to treat him.

Are you feeding it properly? If you're concerned, then take it to a vet, then begin feeding* it properly.
