Nature conservation jobs in Canada?

Hello I'm a 19 year old student from the Netherlands. I will be done with my education on the practical school on nature conservation. I want to do a bachelor or master on nature conservation in the Netherlands and I was thinking that I should try my luck in either Germany or Canada as there is a lot of competition on the "green" job market in the Netherlands.

Are there a lot of nature conservation jobs in Canada and what does it take to become a Canadian.

(I was thinking about either BC or Alberta).

Canada does have a lot of "nature" to protect. We have several national parks that may be able to benefit from young people who want to learn more about nature conservancy and protecting resources. I believe that the University of Alberta has a program related to this, and can even offer special programs to international students.

You might consider trying to see if you are eligible for the Working Holiday program or the Young Professionals internship program in Canada. There are several Australian and New Zealand young adults (age 18-35) that come to Canada each year and work at the ski resorts out west at different tasks. I'm sure that some of the tasks could be monitoring for avalanche conditions, protecting forestry, checking waterways for contaminants, etc.

As a low level Graduate there is much competition for any entry level position even in Canada.

You might want to consider getting advance studies a Masters or PHD in some sub specialty, Marine, forestry or whatever.

The First step to becoming a Canadian is to become a Permanent Resident. Permission to live and work in Canada. Not easy but possible . Most are about 25 and have a combination of relevant education and work experience in the Field. Hint YOU need to be better than the other applicants not just have some list of minimum qualifications.

Step two after a few years you can apply for Citizenship.

That will take about ten years from now. Maybe a year or two faster. You would not have to become Citizen.

These are just a few of the Government departments. Private industry also hires some for special needs things. There are jobs but also there are many applicants.

Consider trying for a two year work Holiday Visa. Not quite what you are looking for but a chance to come to Canada and explore what opportunities you might be able to pursue with an upgrade to your qualifications.

Things are changing in the field the recent economy have affected the job prospects of many in the near future. No one knows what the situation will be 5 or 10 years from now.

These Visas are not too difficult to meet the qualifications to apply. The issue is many thousands do apply. You need a COMPLETE application and need to apply FAST when they are announced for your country.

The quota is reached in a few days. You have ZERO chance if you do not apply.

Here is the Canadian government website; it should answer all your questions: www.cic.gc.ca/english/citizenship/become.asp. To get a job in Canada, you would need a Work Permit. In order to get that, you would have to have skills that no Canadian has. It's not that easy.

Germany would be easier as you won't need a visa.
