can you take RAM out of a pc and stick it in a macbook pro?

I'm salvaging my old pc laptop parts, if I decide to get a mac will the ram be compatible? if so, how can i find out the max ram you can add in? (last pc was a beast spec-wise...had some hardware issues :/ )

    As long as the ram is a DDR3 it will fit. If it's faster than what a macbook supports then the ram will get downclocked, basically it won't work at full speed, but it will work at max speed supported by the macbook.
