A lesson learned. Is it possible the landlord is trying to still you all out of $100? Yes. Is it possible one of your roommates did not put in all of their share of the rent? Yes. Is it possible you yourself made a mistake in what you gave the landlord? Yes.

Bottom line? Anyone, including you could be the liar or the thief. What should you do?

Three things:

1. Each person pays his share of the $100 shortfall and then call it a day or face possible eviction.

2. Always have the landlord count the money in front of who ever is submitting it, preferably with a witness.

3. Always demand a receipt for the amount submitted.

How did you get the rent? That should give you a clue. If they dont pay it, you can charge all or one late payments and such. If this is the start of such things, you simply need to evict them all. When a group of people sign a lease they are jointly liable. That means you can charge one or all.

Talk with your landlord and explain your situation. I would also try and get rid of the deadbeats who don't want to pay. Seek a legal eviction if necessary.
