What is 9 64 inches on a ruler ?

There are 1/8 ths 1/16 2/16ths ect but what is 9.64 inches in inches and 16ths on a ruler ? I understand 9 inches but 9 inches and how many 16ths is 9 64 ?

    This is one of the conversions I find most annoying.

    Let's forget the 9 inches for the moment, and focus on the 0.64, which is the same as the fraction (64/100). What you are trying to do is find "x" in this equation:

    x / 16 = 64 / 100

    Multiply both sides by 16:

    x = ( 64 * 16 ) / 100

    x = 1024 / 100

    x = 10.24

    Round 10.24 down to 10, and you have x = 10, and 0.64 = 10 / 16 , which also equals 5/8.

    So, 9.64 inches approximately equals 9 5/8 inches.
