How do you think a 40 year old woman views a 21 year old girl? Would she take her seriously as a friend? Or think of her as a kid?

I would think of her as a young woman, certainly not a kid - and I'm almost 78.

I'd welcome her friendship, so long as she didn't refer to me as "a wrinkly old hag with one foot in the grave!"

I'm in my 40's and I'm going back to college and I have made lots of friends in that age group.

In general, we're friendly enough but they have a different worldview and outlook on things. There aren't going to be any best buddy or romantic relationships.

The 40 year old would have so much more experience in life i do not think it would work.

It depends upon the sexual orientation of the 40 year old! Is she Lesbian sp? It depends upon that, I would think. The 40 year old woman could be like a mother-figure, with her being so much older!

Both I think, it really depends on the personality of the 40 year old.
