Car help! Please!!?

So I was on a dark hey going probably 35-40. We've had excessive rain and I didn't see the rather large "puddle." I hit it so hard I jerked for a half second or so. Anyway less than a half mile down the road I hear a very faint different sound. Like a "murrrrrrr." I stop at the light and what I call white "smoke," (water vapor??? Maybe??) starts pouring out of the car. I immediately turn it off, being a bit of a drama mama, thinking the damn things going to explode. To be honest I do t even know if I could have started it back up, I was too freaked out to try. I had it towed. Do you all have any ideas what could have happened. Much appreciated. Thank you.

It's probably fine. It was probably just water sizzling on your exhaust.

It was steam from water on the exhaust manifold. Not a big deal. Quit over-reacting to everything in life and everyone will be better off.

My guess is that you got water on hot components like the exhaust manifolds and exhaust pipes. Sorry you wasted money on a tow.

not trying to start it was probably the best thing to do. if water got into the motor, trying to start them again after hydrolocking is what does the damage. a radiator hose or something could have also come loose and was spraying onto the exhaust.

Let it dry out and start it. You probably flooded the engine compartment with water and things are hopefully ok when it dries out, but you can sometimes ingest water into the intake which can cause engine damage....
