Studying abroad in Australia - Packing Toiletries or No?

I'm considering studying in Australia for five months. I'm reading about what to pack and what not to - I've read some people saying not to pack any toiletries, because you can just buy them there and throw them out before you leave. Others say to pack them, because they're ore expensive over there. Does anyone know, ir have any opinion on this?

My view is take what you need. So bring soap, shampoo etc when you go. The reason is that you will probably be in a homestay and need these on a first night. Also you may have trouble finding the brands that you like in Australia.

Yes you can buy it here and for 5 months you will probably have to do some shopping, but you bring enough to get you started. Buy the smallest and lightest sizes you can and bring some with you.

Australia is not a third world country, we do have supermarkets which have a wide choice of toiletries in different price ranges, But, just so you don't have to go shopping as soon as you arrive, just pack shampoo, conditioner, deodorant etc in your checked baggage and replace these in Australia when they run out. Just remember to wrap all liquids in plastic bags to prevent spillage.

Buy them there. Even if they are more expensive they will not be that expensive.
