    Hen of coarse.... Where else would an egg come from. And btw the hen came from the cabbage patch, my mom is told me so!

    The first egg to give rise to a chicken was laid by an "almost-chicken" that had a mutation in its germplasm (either that or the male did). So, the parents of the first chicken were jungle fowl and the egg preceded the chicken.
