Do very proud people ever steal?

I tell you a story my grandfather told me when I was just knee high to a grass hopper. It was the summer of 1930 and the Great Depression was taking its toll on the nation. He had a garden to help feed his family and a few others around him did to. As the summer started winding down and he had a good crop of veggies coming in. He was ready to harvest them for canning when he notice that someone was coming into his garden at night and stealing from him. Being the horny ole cuss that he was he stayed up one night with his shotgun with the true intent of doing this person some great harm. He picked out the perfect spot to hide so he get off a good shot without fear of hitting anyone or anything but that DIRTY old thief. As he sat there he heard the thief coming and he got ready to dispense some good ole fashion justice. He said he raised the barrel of his shotgun and took careful aim when he saw it was the town Preacher. He told me that for a moment he seriously consider pulling the trigger when he realized that of all the poor people in town the Preacher was one of the poorest and also had three kids and wife to feed. As quietly as he could he sat back down and watch the Preacher carefully go thru and pick a little of this and that but did not take more then he needed. My grandfather never told anyone about what he saw that night or what he almost did for many years.

He told me that for years he felt more guilt from how he judge the thief and what he was prepared to do him then anything else he had done in his life.

Be careful judging other unless you know there motivation .

People steal for all kinds of reasons one of which can be to show that they can do it.
