Is 3 years going on 4 too long to be single, and also how long should the average single person stay single?

There is no 'time limit'... but if you really want one, I'd say maybe 5 years after you are 20 or something would be begging people for the question of "Why are you still single?" "Do you want me to set you up with someone". So yeah, in reality there is no "too long" or "too short", but if you do want a rough made up answer...5 years.
But then, please remember there is nothing wrong with being single.
