Would you rather have an atheist or "fake Christian" as President?

This year's primary elections are shifting from the usual trend of having white Christian men running for office.

Bernie Sanders is a self-described "Secular Jew" and when asked about whether or not he believes in a god has responded that he believes in people. He has the opportunity to be the first modern President who doesn't openly believe in any deities (though not the first overall as many of the Founding Fathers were Deists).

Donald Trump is a self-described Dutch-Reform Presbyterian but recently was called out by the Pope who said he is not Christian. However there are fundamentalist Evangelical Christians who don't believe that Catholics (and as such the Pope) are really Christians, so in America that endorsement may actually work in his favour.

I'd much prefer an honest atheist over anyone who primarily uses religion as a tool (*cough* *obama* *cough*)

That is, unless this atheist was also anti-theist. I would never support a candidate who looks down on the majority of the American population. The last thing we need is more hot air in D.C.

Assuming the honesty Atheist has morals and ethics, which I think we can agree a fake Christian would not, I would rather have the former over the latter.

I would rather have a Christian but it really doesn’t matter, as I believe God can and does ordain governments as well as rulers of those governments. It is His privilege as Almighty God to do so. He can ordain whomever He wants for He is a sovereign God. God establishes the kingdoms and governments which fulfill prophecy and serve His divine purposes. To fulfill His Word, God will indeed appoint or ordain a nation or leader for His purposes. It is plainly apparent that as believers we are to obey those in governmental positions as long as they do not require disobedience to God's Word. As our country has turned away from God I really expect the worse to happen with this election.

I want a babbling snake-handling Pentecostal! It'll be great when he/she speaks in tongues at the State of the Union address, hands out rattlesnakes in Congress, etc. The Cabinet can all be eunuchs for Christ.

I'd rather have a fake christian than an atheist!

At least a christian will uphold the Constitution freedom to worship a god an atheist would not

I would take a fake Christian, because at least our first amendment right to believe in God will be protected.

I would rather have an honest atheist than a fake anything.

Even christians can't tell us what that means, to be a christian.

Honesty is always the best policy, and I don't see many christians here who think that.
