If nothing else, learn the German numbers. You can get by without talking pretty much everywhere, if you have to, but when you buy groceries or something and they tell you how much to pay, it is great to know the numbers.
And make sure you bring a power adapter or plug adapter. And double check your laptop power supply to be sure it can handle 240V.
