Is there a web site I can use to get a free history report on a car I'm thinking about buying? Carfax wants money?

Depends upon whether the car is listed for sale on a site that offers free carfax reports - like carfax

If it's on a dealer lot then you have a chance, just do a search for the VIN

If it's a dealer who has the car, they often provide a Carfax report for free. Sometimes, individual sellers do the same, particularly if it's a good report.

Car sellers want money for cars too.

    Oh the humanity.

Look at the bright side, even if you paid for the stupid car fax, you wouldn't have the first clue what it means.
