Moving From Boston to NW North Carolina?

I'm a teenager expecting to move to North West North Carolina this summer with my family. My friend moved there and came back, she said it wasn't worth it and more expensive in the long run. From what I've read, it's a hell of a lot cheaper than MA. Plus, she lived coastal NC.

Anyways, I wondering if there was anything you guys could warn me about or tell me about. Whether I should move or not, what teens are like there, etc.

Also, would they think I have an accent? I don't think I have an accent, and people on tv don't have an accent to me. I don't live exactly in Boston anymore but still within 40 minutes, by the way. Regardless, I'm confident in the fact that I don't have that stereotyped Boston accent. I was just wondering if they'd think I have an accent there.

Finally, I have an A average. The stereotype for down there is that they're kinda dumb. But I know the US goes by the same standards all around, so I was wondering if school work would reallyy be that easier for me.

Thanks! Sorry it was long. Don't be rude, please.

Northwest NC is the mountains. The climate is nice, and there's skiing in the winter. But the towns are small, which means not much night life. If you mean Asheville, it's a lovely city, with a hippyish population downtown, and pricey gated communities with retirees around the outside. There are lots of good restaurants there, and a lot of outdoor life.

It's going to be a bit of a cultural shock. NC is in the Bible Belt, and people tend to be very religious. NC used to have a very good school system, but the current Republican administration has been steadily stripping funds from the schools. Go to Greatschools.com and look up the schools in the area you're moving to. It's going to make a lot of difference. Probably the best place for schools is the Research Triangle- between Duke, UNC and NC State.

If you speak "media Englsh"- the way English sounds on tv- you might sound different from the locals, but you won't get the kind of teasing southerners get when they move to other places. You may find you need a bit of translation for some of the local terms. Try to be open-minded- there are some very nice aspects of living in the south. People are friendly, things are more relaxed and less hectic than in the northeast, and yes, it's a lot cheaper.
