when to change your cartilage piercing on your own?
I got my cartilage pierced early February by needle. She didn't give me the option to put in a stud, like the kind you pierce your ear lobes with, just a small ring with a colored bead.
The lady said I could come back in a month to get the bead changed. I went in around March 17th, I think, to change the bead from sky blue to black. She did it for me, not sure how she did it.
Now, it's April 1st and I'm wondering when I can change it myself, and change it daily. Have I been able to this entire time? How long should I leave the ring in before switching to a stud? My ear isn't completely healed. It still hurts when hit or touched. I really want to change to a diamond stud, or those earrings that go in your lobe and your cartilage with the chain.

It takes about 5 - 6 months for a cartilage piercings to heal fully, and only then can you change the jewelry yourself. Before then, it's best to have a piercer do all jewelry changes in a sterile manner. So if you have jewelry that can be autoclaved, talk to your piercer about putting it in for you. Otherwise, wait until about July, or when all pain, tenderness, and crust have been gone for 4 weeks continuously without returning.
