Is it rude to not invite my roommate to dinner?

My family is coming to visit me at college and we're planning on going out to dinner tonight. I don't really want my roommate to come with us, but I don't want to be rude. I just want to spend time talking to my family and relax. What should I do?

You don't need to invite the roommate to a family dinner. That's not rude at all.

Don't invite them. They should understand that you just need some family time to yourself.

No, don't invite him, as you said its a family night and should remain private, me as a parent will be annoyed if i went to visit my son and he invited his room-mate along, I think your room mate wont be annoyed because he should understand its private.
