Did New Orleans overcome the cultural division between Americans and Creoles in the 19th and early 20th centuries?

Very much so. As a man who grew up there, and a history fan(atic), I know that while ther were racial tensions there, it was - and is - pretty well peaceful racially and culturally. Many believe Creole refers to 'black Cajuns,' and it is often used that way, even here (I now live in Baton Rouge) - but it doesn't. I am, technically, part Creole as a branch of my family is of Spanish descent and we (my aunt) discovered we've been here since the late 18th(!) century. I'm lily-white. Or perhaps fleur de lis white?
