  • Help with Steam? (PC games)?

I have had ZERO luck getting Steam to work for me. Setting aside Steam support (TERRIBLE!), are there any resources I could use to get a handle on this?

  • Mattress protector that doesn't sleep hot?

Most waterproof/bug proof/hypoallergenic mattress protectors sleep HOT. Always some kind of napped material - like jersey cotton.

Anyone know of a type that isn't like this? A plain cotton material would be great!

    Thanks!

  • Help centering a rifle scope?

I am aware of both the mirror method and the click counting method. I'm after a dedicated optics tool designed to do just one thing, center a scope.

Anyone tell me where to find one, or perhaps an outfit that will do it?

I'd rather buy the tool and do it myself, though.

    Thanks & Happy Shooting!

  • My freshwater aquarium fish is pregnant....?

It's a Molly and she's been pregnant an awfully long time. I'm all prepared for her fry, but when will she give birth? This is my first time breeding fish. I suppose some of my fish, 20 years ago when I had a 20 gallon tank, must have bred but I noticed no eggs or fry.

What's going on? Why won't she give birth already? I bought a little cave, thinking maybe she wanted privacy/protection but no dice.

    Any advice is welcome!

  • Best submersible aquarium pump?

What is the best submersible aquarium pump? Nothing too unusual, something sold at most all retailers - I don't want to have to hunt for parts.

I've a 10 gallon freshwater tank now but will be adding a 20-30 gallon or perhaps even larger). So I need multiple answers, even if they're different variations of the same model.

  • Freshwater aquarium fish questions.?

I live in Baton Rouge and, as you might imagine, there are numerous bayous and creeks that run throughout the city. Many are left 'natural,' that is, with mud banks as opposed to those ugly concrete ones. In the ones by my house I can see many beautiful guppies and other fish I can't identify (I am very much a beginner w/ aquariums) that are colorful and of the right size. I can only guess they are the descendants of released pets.

Would it be advisable to catch some to add to my tank? What precautions should I take?

There are also crawfish, though none of the blue or white ones I see in shops/online - just plain, edible crawfish. I've even seen tiny frogs, but am unsure if they are not just juvenile bullfrogs or leopard frogs - the most common varieties here. Newts, as well.

On a different note, I've always liked frogs and toads and have toyed with the idea of raising either a bullfrog or a common toad. The toad would be easy, once I learned the ABC's (I'm guessing) but a bullfrog could be a problem. Anyone know how often they'd need a water change and how fast they grow in captivity? I've seen some truly massive bullfrogs out in the Atchafalaya Basin. As in ones that looked to weigh 8 pounds and approach the size of rabbits.

Alligator snapping turtles would also make an interesting pet, though a friend when I was a kid tried it and the water became a muddy, smelly mess quick - though he used no equipment besides a tank. Anyone know anything on that?

    THANKS!

  • Freshwater aquarium help?

I've started a 10 gallon tank about 3.5 weeks ago. My fish and eve my snails keep dying. I've had my water tested three times and took every bit of instruction - no change.

I read somewhere that the optimal way to set up a tank is through relatively long stages where each element is added separately and the X period of time before the next step.

Anyone know it? Link me or tell me, PLEASE!

20 years ago I had a 20 gallon tank that gave me no trouble at all. Dunno what's wrong.

  • Bullet reloading learning resources?

I've been shooting for over 30 year, and even competed in my early - mid 20's (and did very well, with rifles). I let it slack off until about a year ago when I began shooting more and more often. Now I've decided I'd like to learn reloading.

Can someone point me to the best learning resources available? All formats. I know next to nothing about it.

    THANKS!

  • CLARIFIED: Can't a hair dryer be used as a heat gun?

Seems like they're the same things - or is a hair dryer too hot? Or some other reason it'd be unsuitable?

My intended use is to shrink wrap books & such. As for temperature, I don't know temps for hair dryers, but the wattage on hair dryers is comparable to heat guns and even on the higher side.

Sorry to re-up, but y'all answered so fast and likely wouldn't have looked again otherwise.

    Apologies.

  • Have Zippo lighters gotten smaller?

I bought a Zippo, my first in 20 years. It seems smaller - both height and width. Am I just imagining that?

  • Coppicing. What is it for? It's purpose & how to di it?

First, what exactly is coppicing? What purpose does it serve? I am an historian and, in my reading, I'll come across references to it - to whole coppiced woods. The impression I get is that it was a way of cutting trees (usually a large number of trees) to make the trees grow in a specific and useful-to-man way.

I've looked at the definitions available and they seem to be contradictory.

I've a practical interest in the answer as I am growing 4 Blackthorns in order to make walking sticks (I'm and old man!) and at least one shilleleagh to put above my non-existent mantle so as to tell people, 'I made that,' and bask in approving noises. Blackthorn should be coppiced, but that's thrown out there Like I should know how to coppice!

    Thanks for your help.

  • Does sunlight cause algae to boom in aquariums?

My aquarium gets direct sunlight from a window and seems to have more algae than you'd expect. Is there any correlation?

  • Best DSLR camera?

So, best DSLR for around $300? Don't need it to do anything fancy, but want a solid camera that can also shoot video.

Your best suggestions? All genuine help appreciated!

Got so much crap from some of you who are, frankly, *******, that the gift I loved isn't 'good enough' now.

I got the Nikon Coolpix L340 for my 40th and you (some of you) couldn't wait to tell me ho crappy it was.

Note: I know several things very well (even an idiot knows something at least better than the average). I'm no idiot, I didn't earn my MA by being one (Byzantine History, Loyola). I know history, fishing, calligraphy, navigation by compass (GPS is for p-sies) and shooting (and much more). I am a superb marksman, especially with rifles. I competed in my early 20's and won 1st often w/ bolt action rifles - over open sights being my trump).

Why mention it? If anyone came here after buying an inferior firearm and asked a question, it would not occur to me to denigrate their new buy. I'd just answer. Something else to add to my list.

THANKS TO THE GOOD PEOPLE OUT THERE! You know who you are. :)

  • Is there a proper grammatical term for there: '_____' I've always wondered. Help?

It gets such widespread use, there MUST be a term for them.

Full 'points' if you know! heh!

  • A 're-up' of my previous fishing question, plus some new stuff?

Sorry to ask again, but as I'm leaving Friday I need this ASAP.

What is the purpose of having anti-reverse on your reel?

How should I used drag? Where should it be set when 'presenting' and what to do with it after I've set the hook?

Are 'Breakaway Impact Release Clips' worth using (they've a short Youtube film of it if you're unfamiliar).

CRITICAL: I like to surf fish a few rods at a time. Most are set with what I've always called a 'catfish rig.' Probably not the right name. It's got a weight at the bottow am two (usually just 2) lines running perpendicular to the mainline that have the baited hooks. I have had ZERO success in keeping that rig where I set it. I've tried those 'sputnik' looking weights but same problem. All too soon the rig is pushing closer in. Surely there is a way to fix this?! I'm in the Gulf, no waves like the Atlantic or Pacific! PLEASE help with this one.

  • In fishing, what I 'anti-reverse?'?

    Or 'instant anti-reverse?'

Another question. How should you use drag?

    Thanks from an amateur angler!
